Non-Invasive Vascular Testing

Non-invasive vascular testing (NIVT) relies on various types of technology to evaluate flow, perfusion, and pressure in the blood vessels both at rest and with exercise. There are three major types of blood vessels in the circulatory system: arteries, veins, and lymphatics. Diagnosis of vascular disease includes a documentation of medical history, as well as a full physical exam followed by vascular testing.

Non-invasive vascular testing is a painless procedure, with no needles involved. It can help determine if blood vessel disease such as atherosclerosis (clogging of the arteries with cholesterol-rich plaque) or deep vein thrombosis is present. This testing can also determine the location and severity of any confirmed blood vessel disease. The results can help physicians determine the need for more invasive testing or procedures. NIVT is often an important step in diagnosing and developing a treatment plan for conditions such as leg ulcers or arterial ulcers.
